Mission Arogyakar

We decided to set up a Health & Wellness Resource Centre, Niramaya to promote the useof Indian Knowledge Systems of Health, including AYUSH and Local Health Traditions (LHTs), for Public Health and Healthy Life.Niramaya has undertaken programs to generate awareness about the role of AYUSH in Public Health & Healthy Life with Physicians & Promoters, as well as at community level in general. Mission Arogyakar (MA), a Pilot program for self-reliance in Primary Health was launched largely in 2021 in selected rural areas of 8 districts of UP. Because of its positive impact on the use of AYUSH for common health problems in these districts of UP, MA has been initiated by grass-root organizations in Betul, MP, Jaitu, Punjab and Wardha & Yavatmal in Maharashtra.

IEC material viz. Videos, Banners and Pamphlets on Healthy Life were produced, based on authentic information from Indian Knowledge Systems of Health, including AYUSH & LHTs and used to generate awareness amongst people. Use of locally available material as well as Manpower of AYUSH & LHTs has been encouraged for self-reliance in the management of primary health problems in the rural areas under Mission Arogyakar. Support of requisite inputs of seeds and planting material has also been provided to set up Health Gardens (Sehat Bagichas) for hand holding the MA initiative.

Besides posting IEC material on immunity building and Management of Covid as per AYUSH, for its Collective of AYUSH Practitioners & Promoters (CAPP) and Citizen's Forum, several Books, Booklets, Pamphlets and Banners were printed and distributed.

Mission Arogyakar - A virtual meeting was conducted on 21st June, 2021 with 11 partner organisations of UP to discuss the capacity building plan for Mission Arogyakar. After the initial agreement of the partner organizations on the program, 4 virtual Training Sessions were conducted on July 10-13, 2021 with heads, some AyuMitras and facilitators of 9 selected districts where Mission Arogyakar’s objectives and implementation strategy was discussed along with knowledge sharing on role of AYUSH & LHTs in making rural Uttar Pradesh self-reliant for primary health care. Later, a physical training was conducted on 17th and 18thAugust, 2021 in Lucknow with AyuMitras and Facilitators from 8 districts on Concept, Objectives & Program details of MA.
AYUSH ki Chaupals and Field visits were regularly conducted for more than 5,000 families in 8 districts of UP where a primary surveywas conducted in 2021-22 and follow up survey was conducted in 2022-23. Our team regularly visited the gram panchayats in these districts with the district coordinators and AyuMitras from the respective GPs. Jaagrukta Baithaks were conducted in the villageswith our IEC Material & family health gardens were set up by more than 2,000 households. Health camps were also conducted in collaboration with District AYUSH Dispensary physicians and the local health practitioners where Jeevaniya team also participated.

Impact of Mission Arogyakar - The Follow up Surveys conducted by the Coordinators & Ayu Mitras have shown that there has been a positive impact of this program in all the 8 districts of UP towards increased use of locally available AYUSH Resources for household management of common health problems during the implementation of MA. Learnings from our experience in UP has encouraged several Government as well as Community organizations from other States viz., MP, Maharashtra, Punjab and Bihar to implement the MA in their villages. They have not only started implementing it in the selected villages of their State but also propose to expand it further. Our team of Jeevaniya Society has been helping all of them through training their Master Trainers and providing soft support of the IEC & other material.
